Wesley O. Stewart, 81, of West Burlington, died at 6:35 a.m. Sunday, June 27, 1999, at Burlington Medical Center. Born Nov. 10, 1917, in Burlington, he was the son of William and Eva Cable Stewart. On Oct. 20, 1937, he married Betty J. Parker in Burlington. Mr. Stewart served with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Oakville during World War II. He was a retired welder for J.I. Case Co. He was a member of the Christian Church and United Auto Workers Local 807. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling, and was an avid reader and a dedicated Cubs fan. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Daid L. and Ronald L. Stewart, both of Burlington; three daughters, Sherry Bloom of Burlington, and cheryl Stewart and Karen Stewart, both of West Burlington; nine grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren; two brothers, Orville and William Stewart, both of Burlington; and one sister, Delores Gerst of Gladstone, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and two brothers. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Wednesday in Prugh's Chapel. There will be no family visitation. The funeral for Mr. Stewart will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. David Nash officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society.
