Betty Jean Stewart, 87, of West Burlington, died at 11:30 p.m. Monday, October 6, 2008, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born August 17, 1921, in Burlington, she was the daughter of John Henry and Rhoda Anna Law Parker. On October 30, 1937, she married Wesley O. Stewart. He died June 27, 1999. Mrs Stewart was a homemaker. She worked as head cook at the Harrison House Restaurant. She was a spot welder at Klein Manufacturing, and worked in shipping and receiving at J. I. Case. She was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, baking, cooking and watching and feeding birds. Survivors include two sons, David L. Stewart and Ronald L. Stewart, both of Burlington; three daughters, Sherry Bloomer of Burlington and Cheryl Stewart and Karen Stewart, both of West Burlington; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. Visitation will be from 8 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Prugh's Chapel in Burlington, where the family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday. The graveside funeral for Mrs. Stewart will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, with the Rev. Dean Graber officiating. A memorial has been established for Des Moines County Hospice Program.
