Obituary
Carolyn Ross Latty Stebbins of Burlington died Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, Iowa. She was born January 1, 1940 at Burlington, Iowa the daughter of John Penny and Helen Gregson Coe Latty. On February 11, 1978 she married James Henry Stebbins in Burlington.
Mrs. Stebbins attended grade school at Latty School and was a 1957 graduate of Sperry High School, attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa for 1 ½ years and was a 1959 graduate of Burlington Junior College and a 1963 graduate of the University of Iowa College of Nursing in Iowa City. After graduation she worked at the University Hospital in Iowa City, taught in the School of Nursing at Burlington Medical Center and was Director of Admissions at BMC for 13 years.
She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority at Parsons College where she lived in the Sorority House. In her younger years she was a member of First Congregational Church of Burlington where she was a member of Congregators and served several terms as a Deaconess on the Diaconate Board. She was a 25 plus year member of the What-So-Ever- Circle of Kings Daughters. She was a past Worthy Matron of White Star Chapter of Eastern Star in Mediapolis and later was a member of the E.C. Blackmar Chapter of Eastern Star in Burlington. During her years in Eastern Star she held several offices including Worthy Matron and also was a District Instructor in Iowa. Mrs. Stebbins enjoyed traveling and was a lover of flowers and working in her many flower beds.
Survivors include her husband, four daughters: Deborah (Mike) Pintar of Burlington, Linda (Robert) Hoover and Susan (Jeff) Haines both of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Carol (Steve) Hildreth of Hastings, Minnesota. One son James (Judy) Stebbins of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. One brother, John (Pat) Latty of Burlington; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One niece and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson Jacob Haines.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Luke United Church of Christ. Pastor Mark Schowalter will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at Prugh’s Chapel on Monday from noon until 8:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ. Following the committal service there will be a luncheon in the church fellowship hall.
