Lester Fredrick Starman, age 80, passed away 5:00 a.m. Thursday, October 26, 2006, at Great River Medical Center after a six-month battle with cancer He was born November 26, 1925 on a farm near Sperry, Iowa the son of Roy Henry and Marie Johanna "Mary" Steffener Starman. On June 6, 1945 he married Arleen Luedemann at Concordia Lutheran Church in Burlington. He was a 1943 graduate of Burlington High School. His employment included the Midwest Biscuit Company, Burlington Northern Railroad, J.I. Case Co. and Klein Mfg. He was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for 27 years, retiring in 1985. He was an active and charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. Most important in his life was his love for his Lord and Savior, his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The couple spent several winters in Weeki Wachee, Florida and attended Grace Lutheran Church in Spring Hill, Florida. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, NARFE, UCT, and Square-N-Aders square dance club. His hobbies included fishing, feeding and watching birds, especially cardinals and orioles. He was a life long sports fan. His favorite teams were the St. Louis Cardinals, Iowa Hawkeyes and the SCC Black Hawks dating back to the late ‘40's. The couple loved to travel and visited Canada, Mexico and every state except Alaska. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Arleen Starman; one son, Dale Lester Starman of Weeki Wachee; three daughters, Linda (Don) Henning of Liberty, Illinois, Debbie (Bill) Dietsch of Temple, Pennsylvania and Darcie (Bob) May of Burlington; eight grandchildren, Sean Starman of Tampa, Florida, Dr. Shannan Starman of Atlanta, Georgia, Billi Jo (Adam) Baker of San Antonio, Texas, Lidonna (Stephen) Beer of Loveland, Colorado, Ian Henning of Tallahassee, Florida, and Zachary, Hillary and Kylie May of Burlington; four great-grandchildren, Avery and Alyssa Starman and Declan and Miriam Beer; several nieces, nephews and cousins. His parents preceded him in death.FS
