Harvey G. Starman Jr., 56, of 1408 S. Starr Ave., died at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, 1990, at his home. Born March 13, 1933, in Yellow Springs Township, Des Moines County, he was the son of Harvey G. Sr. and Martha Steffener Starman. He married Marla Jean Cooper Jan. 23, 1961. He had been a painter for John D. Fry for 29 years. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict. He was A race car driver of modified and stock cars for over 20 years. He was an avid gardener and a member of the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades, American Legion, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Zion Untied Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Rhonda Starman and Mrs. Susan (Bill) Glasgow, both of Burlington; one son, Keith Starman of Iowa City; his mother of Mount Pleasant; five sisters, Mrs. Ethel (Ralph) Carlson of Mount Pleasant, Mrs. Edan (Kenneth) Poggemiller of Burlington, Mrs. Jean (Charles) Pressley of West Hills, Calif., Mrs. Doris (Robert) Hurley of Des Moines, and Mrs. Caroline Burke of Bentonville, Ark.; seven brothers, Dennis Starman of Desert Hot Springs, Calif., James Starman of Van Nuys, Calif., Robert Starman and Dale Starman, both of Mount Pleasant, Kenneth Starman of Des Moines, and Gary Starman and John David Starman, both of Burlington; and two grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Lunning Chapel. The service for Mr. Starman will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Gary Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial scholarship has been established at the Zion United Church of Christ.
