Betty Ann Spurgeon, 88, of Burlington, died at 10:50 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011, at Bickford Assisted Living in Burlington. Born March 5, 1923, at home near Udell in Appanoose County, she was the daughter of Harry I. and Daisy M. Davis Moulton. On June 30, 1945, she married Clinton S. Spurgeon in Burlington. He died March 27, 2005. Mrs. Spurgeon worked 19 years in production at Chittenden and Eastman, retiring in 1985. She was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the auxiliaries of Moose Lodge 579, VFW Post 10102, and Eagles Aerie 150. Survivors include two daughters, Connie Spurgeon of Davenport, and Beverly Murphy of Burlington; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Ballew of Moberly, Mo.; nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, and five brothers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel in Burlington. The funeral for Mrs. Spurgeon will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Dean Benton officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. Memorials have been established for First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and Bickford Cottage.
