Matilda Springsteen, 80, of Burlington, died at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at Blair House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Burlington. Born May 11, 1930, in Amsterdam, N.Y., she was the daughter of Henry and Sarah Jane Peters Dobbs. On October 30, 1948, she married Dale L. Springsteen in Burlington. He died September 9, 1989. Mrs. Springsteen was a homemaker. She also worked at Winegard Co. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed family gatherings, gardening, and "antique mermaids." Survivors include five daughters, Linda Kuenzler of Gonzales, Texas, Katy Logan of Mediapolis, Dale Krogmeier of New London, Mary Kuenzler of Sperry, and Carol Abel of Mediapolis; three sons, Mike Springsteen of New London, Douglas Springsteen of Topeka, Kan., and Donald Springsteen of Burlington; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Henrietta VanPatten of Scotia, N.Y. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, two grandchildren, her parents, and one brother. Friends may call from noon to 7 p.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Springsteen will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Deb Miller-Kinney officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. Memorials have been established for Special Needs Foundation of Southeast Iowa and Burlington Public Library.
