Robert K. “Bob” Bice, 81, of West Burlington, died at 12:45 pm Thursday, April 22, 2004, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born June 12, 1922, in Memphis, Mo., he was the son of Alpha and Clara Lou Krieg Bice. On June 22, 1947, he married Audrey Williams in LaHarpe, Ill. She died Dec. 16, 1995.
Mr. Bice was a carpenter and worked as maintenance supervisor at Westland Mall for 13 years, retiring in 1990.
He was of the Protestant faith. He was a WWII Navy veteran with the rank of chief gunner's mate. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts 10102 and 9162, Disabled American Veterans, and American Legion Post 52, all of Burlington.
Survivors include three sons, William Bice of Burlington, Stephen Bice of Dumfries, Wa., and Mike Bice of Cave Creek, Va.; three daughters, Betsy Smith of Burlington, Marjorie Shepherd of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Barbara McRoberts of West Burlington; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Marion Bice of LaHarpe; and three sisters, Maxinne Long of Blandinsville, Ill., and Eileen Purdy and Eleanor Sears, both of LaHarpe.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, his parents, two sisters, and one brother.
Visitation will be from 9 am to 8 pm Sunday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm.
The funeral for Mr. Bice will be at 10:30 am Monday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Mark Doss officiating. Burial with military rights conducted by Veteran’s Honor Guard of VFW Posts 10102 and 9162, American Legion Post 52, and the Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
