Jacob "Jake" Boyd, 22, of Burlington, died Saturday, May 19, 2012, at O'Connell Slough, just off the Mississippi River. Born April 14, 1990, in Burlington, he was the son of John Keith and Diane Lynn McGill Boyd and Sharon Kay Kindig. Jake had worked at Winegard Company. He was a 2008 graduate of Burlington High School. He was a fan of the Michigan Wolverines and the Chicago Bulls and was an avid gamer. He loved the Mississippi River, his Nanny, and especially loved spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his parents, John and Diane Boyd of Burlington; his mother, Sharon Kay Kindig of Oregon, paternal grandmother, his "Nanny", Patricia Boyd of Burlington; two sisters, Katie Boyd of Burlington, and Brandi (Orondi) Shaw of Phoenix, AZ; two brothers, Zach Boyd of Burlington, and Matt Wood of Altus, OK; six nieces and nephews, Christyan, Olivia, Jasmyn, DeEdwin, MacKenzie, and Malorie, and one more on the way; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandpa, Merle Keith Boyd, and maternal grandmother, Betty Mitchell. Visitation will be from noon until 8:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. The funeral service for Jake will be 1:00 PM Friday, May 25, 2012, at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Shane A. McCampbell officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Sheriff Water Response Team.
