Elvin W. Spicknall, 91, of Burlington, died at 3:56 AM Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at his home.
Born November 11, 1923, in Fairmont, MO, he was the son of Charles Edward and Virginia Dare Spicknall. On November 23, 1952, he married Doris Maxine Taulman in Burlington.
Elvin worked for 22 years as an electrician at the IAAP and for 16 years in construction.
He graduated from Wyaconda High School in 1941 in Missouri and later Bailey Tech. in St. Louis with an Associate's Degree
Elvin was a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran, serving during the WWII from January 12, 1943 until March 12, 1946.
He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 150, V.F.W. Post 10102, and I.B.E.W. He enjoyed playing cards, watching the Cardinals (sometimes), gardening, fishing, growing tomatoes, and most of all spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Doris of Burlington, two sons, David W. (Diane) Spicknall of Iowa City, Cory D. (Rose Marie) Spicknall of Muscatine, one daughter, Charmin M. (Harold) Koenig of Durham, NC; six grandchildren, Daniel, Karen, Jordan, Rebekah, Deveraux, Molly; one great-grandchild, Cloud; one sister, Zane Logan of Racine, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ralph Spicknall and two sisters, Hazel and Mildred.
Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Spicknall will be 10:00 AM Friday, July 17, 2015, at Bethany Lutheran Church with Interim Pastor Ralph Andersen officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Special Needs Foundation and the Bethany Church Roof Repair Project.
