Neal Paul Spearman, 86, of Morning Sun, formerly of West Burlington, died at 1:09 am Saturday, March 26, 2011, at the Morning Sun Care Center in Morning Sun.
Born January 15, 1925, in Burlington, he was the son of Neal Thomas and Ruth Catherine Burke Spearman. On October 24, 1946, he married Marcidell "Marcy" Hills in Burlington.
Neal had worked at the Ordinance Plant, for the City of Burlington as a Police Officer, and also ran the Railroad Salvage Store. He then retired from the City of Burlington as a bus driver.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during the World War II on a crash boat. He later joined the U.S. Army and spent time in Korea.
He was a member of SS. Marry & Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington, a lifetime member of the VFW Post 10102, and the Eagles Club. He enjoyed family gathering, having coffee with his mall "buddies", planting flowers, watching John Wayne movies, dancing, life, sports, and teasing people.
Survivors include his wife, Marcy, or according to Neal, "Fluffy", of Burlington; one daughter, Gaylea (Gene) Gaines of Burlington; four sons, Mike Spearman of Keokuk, Richard Spearman of West Point, Bill (Roxie) Spearman and Joe Spearman, both of Morning Sun; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Donna (Billy) Clements of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, and one infant daughter.
As per Neal's request cremation has been accorded.
A private family celebration of life for Mr. Spearman will be at the Hass-Thielen community room with Rev. Father David G. Steinle officiating. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington and Morning Sun Care Center.
