Rev. John S. Beverly, 71, former pastor of Union Baptist Church of Burlington, died Wednesday at 9:40 pm at the Burlington hospital after a brief illness. His home was in Gulfport.
Rev. Beverly was born June 19, 1896, at Keytesville, Mo., the son of John S. and Mary Christopher Beverly. Dec. 19, 1950, at Macomb, Ill., he married Lois Windsor. He was a member of the County Ministerial Association. At the time of his death, he was the pastor of the Second Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant and Canton, Mo. He held a number of state administrative positions with the Baptist organization. He was auditor of the North Missouri District, and Secretary of the Eastern District of Iowa Baptist Association. In recent years Mr. Beverly has been employed by Dane Morgan Associates of Burlington.
Surviving; His wife; a son John S., Vallejo, Calif.; a stepson, Vernon Windsor, Ft. Madison; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Services Saturday, 1 pm, First Baptist Church, Aspen Grove Cemetery. The body is at Prugh’s Chapel and will be taken to the church at 10 am Saturday.
