Obituary

Sara Anne Sparks, 76, of Burlington died Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, Iowa. She was born November 1, 1938 in Clarksville, Missouri, the daughter of Russell and Gladys Thornton Davis. She married Rev. Albert Lee Sparks November 22, 1971 in Rock Island, Illinois.

Sara was a homemaker and worked at the Rock Island Arsenal and later the Burlington Sears Catalog desk. She was Choir Director, played the piano, Sunday school teacher and shared her very beautiful singing voice at Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Burlington. Sara liked to give of her talents and time to others in need. She was an accountant for local NAACP in Burlington. Her life was the church and her grandbabies.

Sara is survived by her husband, Rev. Albert Sparks of Burlington; two daughters, Alexandria Sparks of Aurora, Illinois and Christina (Shawn) Hill of Dallas, Texas; two step daughters, Katrina Sparks and Karla Hunter both of Richmond, California; one granddaughter, Zoe Thomas; six step-grandchildren; one sister, Donna Hill of Silvis, Illinois; two brothers, Russell (Phyllis) Davis of Milan, Illinois and James (Louise) Davis of Plano, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant son, Albert Sparks Jr.; and one sister, Bertha Keys.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Burlington, Iowa. Rev. John H. of Mims will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends in Trinity Lutheran Church on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. A memorial has been established for Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
