Frederick Albine Spanhut Jr., 95, of Burlington, died at 2:15 PM Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at the Wapello Specialty Care in Wapello.
Born October 10, 1921, in Iowa, he was the son of Frederick and Mary Jane Kiersey Spanhut Sr. On April 17, 1955, he married Kathryn Meeker in Manito, IL. She died March 23, 2010
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran, serving for four years during WWII.
Fred worked at J.I. Case Company in Burlington for 40 years, 35 years as a foreman in the assembly department.
He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. Fred was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He enjoyed spending his time gardening, woodworking and hunting; he was a fair man of integrity who dearly loved his wife and family.
Survivors include one son, Keith (Judy) Spanhut of Oakville; two daughters, Carole (Kirk) Siegle of Oakville and Janet (Jeff) Allgood of Burlington; 11 grandchildren, Dustin (Lindsey) Siegle, Mallory (Shane) Andrews, Caleb Siegle, Lance (Emily) Allgood, Molly Allgood, Kyle (Nadia) Allgood, Angie Allgood, Brian (Jayme) Spanhut, Anna (Eric) Neilson, Laura (Nick) Scholten, and Kay (Kevin) Boyer;13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dolores Meeker of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews,.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters.
Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 18, 2017 where the family will receive friends at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Spanhut will be 11:00 AM Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Rygh officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church following the burial.
