Kathryn M. Spanhut, 84, of Burlington, died at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born December 17, 1925, in Manito, Ill., she was the daughter of Moses R. and Nelda Whitaker Meeker. On April 17, 1955, she married Fred A. Spanhut in Manito. Mrs. Spanhut was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Manito High School, and attended Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and the church circle. She enjoyed playing piano, embroidery, gardening, and day trips through the country. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Carole Siegle of Oakville, and Janet Allgood of Muscatine; one son, Keith Spanhut of Oakville; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. today at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home in Burlington, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Spanhut will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dean Graber officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. Memorials have been established for Asbury United Methodist Church and Great River Hospice House.
