Obituary
A. Elmer Solheim, 78, of West Burlington, formerly of Middleetown and Fairfield, died at 5:23 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington. Born Feb. 8, 1922, in Decorah, he was the son of Andrew and Guri Lansurd Solheim. On Dec. 18, 1949, he married Ruth Scott in Middletown. Mr. Solheim graduated from Decorah High School in Decorah, and for two years attended Luther College. He was a World War II Army veteran. Following the service, he lived in Fairfield and in Middletown for 30 years. He was a training specialist for Mason and Hanger, where he worked for 35 years. He retired in 1984. He was a member of Danville Masonic Lodge No. 48, A.F. & A.M., Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 14000, and AARP. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Carol R. Solheim of Sperry; one sister, Olga Monsen of Carol Stream, Ill.; and nine nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister. There will be no visitation. The memorial service for Mr. Solheim will be 10 a.m. Friday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Bruce Goettache officiating. Burial of cremains will be at a later date in Fairfield Cemetery, Fairfield. A memorial has been established.
