Obituary
Mr. Wayne F. Snyder, 77, of Burlington died at 5:21 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born August 8, 1934 in Burlington, he was the son of Fred John and Florence W. Nelson Snyder. On July 10, 1956 he married Valrie Toler in Bay Minette, Alabama. Mr. Snyder was a Navy veteran of Korea and Vietnam serving 20 years active duty and 10 years in the Naval Reserve. He then worked in maintenance for the United Postal Service for over 17 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of West Avenue Baptist Church, Moose Lodge 579, Eagles Aerie 150, V.F.W. and Fleet Reserve. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and racing. Survivors include his wife, Valrie Snyder of Burlington; two daughters, Glenda (Pat) McKasson and Tammie (Jeff Wilson) Snyder both of Burlington; one son, Fred (Siobhan) Snyder of Henderson, Nevada; eight grandchildren, Bobbie Jo Crear, Dana LaVeine, Kyler Snyder, Stephen Snyder, Rachel Snyder, Patrick McKasson Jr., Josh McKasson, Heather McKasson; 11 great grandchildren; and one sister, Doris Ware of Gainesville, Florida and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son in infancy, Stephen Snyder, his parents and four brothers, Paul, George, Larry and Bobby. Friends may call after 8 a.m. Thursday, July 5th, in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. The graveside memorial funeral service and inurnment for Mr. Snyder will be 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 6th, in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Kirk Bennett will officiate. Military Rites will be conducted by the US Navy Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for West Ave. Baptist Church and Great River Hospice. According to Mr. Snyder's wishes, cremation has been accorded.
