Elmer George "Bus" Snyder, 83, of Burlington died at 1:34 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11,2007, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born Dec. 8,1923, in Burlington, he was the son of Theodore and Ida Miller Snyder. On June 23,1956, he married Marcia Jean Whale. She died Oct. 16,1979. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked for 40 years with Ewinger Supply. He later worked for Arledge Transfer Co. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, feeding birds and squirrels and raising chickens. Survivors include one daughter, Teresa Ruberg of Burlington; two sons, Jeff Snyder and David Snyder, both of Burlington; two grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Heuvelmann of Burlington; nieces; and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one son, seven sisters and five brothers. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Prugh's Chapel, where the family will meet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday. The funeral for Mr. Snyder will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Bethany Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Jim Ruberg officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
