Norlyn "Norm" Snider, 90, of Burlington, died at 4:40 AM Thursday, September 8, 2016, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington..
Born December 25, 1925, in New London, IA, he was the son of Walter E. and Olive Jamison Snider. On September 16, 1972 , he married Mary Wedertz in Burlington.
Norm retired in 1985 from Burlington Northern Railroad where he started as a telegrapher and later a central control operator.
He was a 1944 graduate of Burlington High School.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the World War II from 1944 until 1946 where he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.
He was a member of The First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and Transportation Communication Union.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, one daughter, Carolyn (Wayne) Ragland of Austin, TX; one step-son, Alan K. (Lynn) Wedertz of Lancaster, CA; one step-daughter, Connie (Jim) Kern of Bellavista, Arkansas; one granddaughter, Amy Hohenberg; five step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, one step-great-great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one son, and one step-grandson.
The Graveside Committal Service for Mr. Snider will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at Aspen Grove Cemetery with Reverend David J. Yonker officiating and full military honors rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society and the Smile Train.
