Iona Josephine Snider, 100, of Burlington, died at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, Iowa, on Friday, May 27, 2011, at 11:18 a.m. Born on December 31, 1910, in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Albert and Anna Waibel Lehmann. She married Clemons H. Snider on November 12, 1936, in Rock Island, Illinois. He died on March 9, 1987. Iona was a den mother for Cub Scout Troop 9 of North Hill, and received the first den mother award given in Burlington. She was a DeMolay mother, and assisted in their programs. She was also a member of Abida Kings Daughters, the Service Circle of Zion Church, and helped with the Baby Quilters group. She enjoyed writing poetry and painting with oil and water colors. She was very gifted and received awards for each of those talents. She also enjoyed making and giving toys to children, growing and arranging flowers. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. She is survived by one son, Richard H. Snider of Burlington, Iowa; two grandchildren, Jeff Snider of Keokuk, Iowa, and Gretchen (Dan) Doyle of Burlington, Iowa; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one brother, Charles Lehmann. Funeral services for Iona Josephine Snider will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. in Prugh's Chapel. Pastor Jane Willan will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa. Friends may call after 12:00 p.m. Monday with the family present to receive friends on Monday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. A memorial has been established for Zion United Church of Christ.
