Ruby Ree Smith, 82, of Burlington, died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, September 25, 2008, at her home. Born March 16, 1926, in Marshall, Missouri, she was the daughter of William Marshall and Lula Mae Hill Butts. On September 10, 1945, she married Donald Raymond Smith in Columbia, Missouri. He died April 16, 2001. Mrs. Smith worked in production at Sylvania, at Sterzing Potato Chips, Beckman Dry Cleaners and was self-employed housekeeping. She was of the Protestant Faith. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, wallpapering, shopping, dancing the jitterbug, and going to auctions and yard sales. Survivors include one daughter, Patricia A. Bentley of Burlington; five grandchildren, Lori Dowell, Ami Paradise, Jason Rohlfes, Troy Arch and Colton Bentley; six great-grandchildren, Dustin Franklin, Brandon Franklin, Skylar Franklin, Felicia Arch, Brock Dowell and Jack Paradise; three sisters, Ruth Kaithoff of Springfield, Missouri, Shirley Failor of Marshall, Missouri and Barb Schmirler of Wausua, Wisconsin; one brother, Jim (Jimmie) Butts of Kansas City, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Earlene Costilla of Burlington; several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, her parents, one sister and three brothers. The family will be present to greet friends in Prugh's Chapel Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The funeral for Ruby Ree Smith will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2008, in Prugh's Chapel, with Dr. Frank Beaty officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established in her memory.
