Ann L. Smith, 90, of Burlington, died at 3:15 a.m. Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Great River Medical Center-Klein Center in Burlington. Born January 14, 1920, in LaBelle, MO, she was the daughter of William Ernest "Shorty" and Berniece Elaine Johnston Thomson. On April 15, 1945, she married Archie O. Smith in Burlington. He died March 1, 2009. Mrs. Smith taught school in Fairfield, and was a DZ inspector at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant during World War II. She was a graduate of Canton, MO High School, attended Iowa State University, and earned a bachelor of science degree at Parsons College in Fairfield. She was of the Baptist faith. She was a member of Empyrean Society. She enjoyed 24 years of motor home traveling throughout the United States, Canada, Hawaiian Islands and Mexico. Survivors include one daughter, Sherry Stewart of Burlington. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. No visitation is planned. The graveside funeral for Mrs. Smith will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, with the Rev. Gary Karas officiating. Lunning Chapel in Burlington is in charge of arrangements
