Gladys I. Smith, 84, of Burlington died at 10:55 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at Burlington Care Center. Born Feb. 21, 1923, in Wiergo, Wis., she was the daughter of Frank and Anna Lundquist Peak. On June 11, 1941, she married Alfred E. Smith in Pine City, Minn. He died July 31, 1968. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and worked at Mr. Quick and JoAnn Fabrics in Burlington. She was a graduate of Webster High School in Wisconsin. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Burlington and active in their GEMS Group. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and sewing and was a master quilter. Survivors include two sons, Jay Smith of Burlington and Alan "Tag" Smith of Spring Lake, Mich.; two daughters, Susan Smith of Newton and Carol Michaels of Spring Lake; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Leroy Peak of Grantsburg, Wis.; and one sister, Irma Carlson of Clear Lake, Wis. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister. She has been cremated. Visitation with family will be 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Lunning Chapel. The memorial service for Mrs. Smith will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Bradley Hansen officiating. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for First Presbyterian Church.
