Albert E. Sly, 77, of Fort Madison, formerly of Burlington, died at Burlington Medical Center's Klein Unit.
Born in Dallas City, Ill., he was the son of Elmer and Irvil Hoskins Sly. He married Beulah Huffman April 21, 1940. He later married Mildred Elder Howard May 25, 1991, in Fort Madison.
Mr. Sly was a welder and forklift operator for J.I. Case Co. for 23 years. He was a member of Sts. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Madison and U.A.W. Local No. 807. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Joyce Kephart and Martha "Marti" Bindel, both of Burlington; two sons, James Sly of Burlington and Fred Sly of Stronghurst, Ill.; five stepsons, Johnnie "Mike" Howard, Daniel Howard and Bob Howard, all of Fort Madison, Jeff Howard of Denmark, and Jim Howard of Wichita, Kan.; two stepdaughters, Linda Pumphrey of Wever, and Carol Heidbreder of Dallas City; 12 grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; four sisters, Erma McCannon and Betty Bessine, both of Burlington, Marge Clarkson of San Antonio, Texas, and Sharon Luetger of Lomax, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, two brothers and one sister.
The funeral was held at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Thomas Parlette officiating.
