Beulah Vivian Sly, 86, of Burlington, died at 5 a.m. Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born July 24, 1921, in Minot, N.D., she was the daughter of Thurman Cecil and Woodie Brownie Gilbert Huffman. Mrs. Sly was an inspector for Sylvania Electronics for 15 years, retiring in 1969. She worked at Iowa army Ammunition Plant in Middletown. She was of the Protestant faith. She was a member of AARP and Ladies of the Moose Lodge 579 in Burlington. She enjoyed ceramics, playing cards and auctions. Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Kephart and Marti Trosen, both of Burlington; two sons, James D. Sly of Burlington and Fredrick Sly of Stronghurst, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Weiss of South Carolina and Lena Cornelison of Waynesville, MO; one brother, Thurman Huffman, Jr. of Burlington; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, one grandchild, her parents, two sisters and four brothers. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Sly will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Ken Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington.
