Born Jan. 12, 1940, in Burlington, he was the son of Russell and Marie Schmitz Nelson. On Dec. 10, 1960, he married Sandra House in Burlington.
Mr. Nelson worked as a machinist for the West Burlington Shops for 39 years, retiring in 2000.
He was a 1957 graduate of Burlington High School. He was of the Lutheran faith. He was a Navy veteran. He was a member of the Moose and trapshooting and hunting clubs. He also enjoyed fishing, doing field trials with his dogs and traveling.
He was preceded in death by one daughter and his parents.
