Ida Darlene Sliger, 98, of Mt. Pleasant, and formerly of New London, died Saturday, June 11, 2011, at Sunnybrook, Mt. Pleasant. Mrs. Sliger was born January 7, 1913, in Gladstone, Illinois, the daughter of Jacob and Susan Florence Mason Seitz. On August 7, 1933, she married Roma George Sliger in Burlington. He died September 19, 2006. Mrs. Sliger was a farm wife, and also worked in production at G.E. in Burlington for 15 years, retiring in 1975. She was the first woman to retire from this G.E. shop. She attended country schools in Gladstone, and was a member of the New London United Methodist Church. She was a 50 year member of Safety Rebekah Lodge #409, and a former member of L.A.P.M. She enjoyed bowling, cards, shopping, walking, traveling, dancing, and spending time with her family and friends. She was also a good cook. She is survived by two sons, Paul (Patty) Sliger of Richmond, Virginia, and Jerry (Carolyn) Sliger of West Burlington; one brother, Clyde (Gladys) Seitz of Oquawka; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers, and four sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2011, at Elliott Chapel, New London. Pastor Jim Roth will officiate. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington. Visitation will begin after noon on Wednesday, June 15th, at Elliott Chapel, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A memorial has been established to Hospice Compassus of Cedar Rapids.
