Roma George Sliger, 99, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of New London, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006, at Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Mount Pleasant. Born May 19,1907, in Bushnell, IL., he was the son of Charles Alonzo and Loda Mae Rigby Sliger. On Aug. 7, 1933, he married Ida Darlene Seitz in Burlington. Mr. Sliger farmed in the Gladstone, IL., area, then moved to the New London area in 1941 and farmed there until his retirement. He attended Illinois country schools. He was a member of New London United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau, Eagles Club and Moose Lodge. He worked for the ASCS office in the winter. He enjoyed Farmall tractors and the Chicago Cubs. Survivors include his wife of Mount Pleasant; two sons, Paul Sliger of Richmond, Va., and Jerry Sliger of West Burlington; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Leia Miller of Burlington; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Sliger will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Elliott Chapel in New London with the Rev. Dot Hasler officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington. Memorials have been established for United Methodist Church and Hospice of Central Iowa.
