Gene B. Skelley Funeral services for Gene B. Skelley, 54, of Burlington, Iowa, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the First Christian Church, 1221 Park Ave., Burlington, Iowa. Born Aug. 24, 1948, in Sentinel, Okla., he passed away after a long battle with cancer, Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at his home. Dr. Skelley was in the Army Reserves and he was a past elder of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He was past president and member of the New Crystal Lake Sportsman Club and he was a long-standing member of Ducks Unlimited. Dr. Skelley was a doctor of veterinary medicine, the owner of Summer Street Animal Clinic of Burlington and a member of the American Veterinary Association. He was on the board of directors of the F&M Bank & Trust. In addition, Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Cindy (Collingbourne); sons, Joe (Jennifer) and Ben, both of Burlington; mother, RosaLea of Rocky, Okla.; sister Diane Skelley of Mustang, Okla., in-laws, Al and nancy Collingbourne of Escondido, Calif.; brothers-in-law, Albert (JoAnne) Collingbourne and Peter (Jean) Collingbourne, both of East Dundee, Ill.; sister-in-law, Debbie (John) Engel of Fla; many nieces, nephews; and close friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Hervie; and brother, Gomer. Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today, at the church.
