John D. Simmons, 55, of Burlington, died at 4:47 p.m., Sunday, April 25, 1999, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City. Born March 1, 1944, in Burlington, he was the son of Robert A. Simmons and Lucille McChesney Wick. Mr. Simmons was an Army Sergeant in the Vietnam War, serving two tours. He was a truck driver for more than 30 years, driving for Liberty Transport, Inc. of Burlington. He attended the Church of the Open Bible of Burlington. Survivors include his mother of Mount Pleasant; one brother, Don Simmons of Kenna, W. VA; one sister, Pat Brown of Mount Union; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, stepfather, and two brothers. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Wednesday in Lunning Chapel. There will be no family visitation. The graveside funeral for Mr. Simmons, with military rites conducted by VFW Post No. 10102 of Burlington, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Aspen Grove Cemetery, with the Rev. William Hornback officiating. A memorial has been established for his grave marker.
