Obituary
David Berry, 64, of 15026 Skunk River Road, died at 9:20 am Friday, July 14, 1995, at the Henry County Health Center.
Born Sept. 14, 1930, in Galesburg, Ill., he was the son of David and Jennie L. Slater Berry. On Aug. 6, 1955, he married Helen Ray in Galesburg, Ill.
Mr. Berry worked as a welder for Butler Manufacturing before moving to Burlington. He became the equipment and general caretaker of Clark Field House as an employee of Burlington School District. Twenty years of his working career were spent at the Mental Health Institute in Mt. Pleasant, where he ended his career as director of auxiliary services at the facility. He also was the owner of B & F Concrete Construction Co.
He served with the US Army in Korea, attached to a gunnery outfit. He served as a volunteer sheriff’s posse member for several years. He was a member of the Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church. He was an outstanding wild game hunter.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, of Burlington; one son, David Berry III of East St. Louis, Ill.; three daughters, Yvonne Berry of Portland, Ore., Tami Heidelberg, and Holly Barksdale, both of Burlington; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
There will be no visitation.
The funeral Mr. Berry will be at 11 am Thursday in Prugh’s Chapel, with the Rev. Barnabus Barker G.O.R. officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Ertz Home Hope Haven Area Development Center.
