James "Jim" Edwin Short, 69, of Burlington died Sunday, January 8, 2006, at his home. Born August 22, 1936 in Mount Pleasant he was the son of Vern Edwin and Dolores Matilda Siefken Short. On September 7, 1957 he married Patricia Joan Byrne at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Burlington. Mr. Short was a graduate of Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. He was a Navy veteran serving from 1954 until 1957. Mr. Short was an electrician for I.B.E.W. Local 13 for 40 years retiring in 2002. He was a member of SS John and Paul Catholic Church of Burlington. He was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed trapping, cross stitching, flower and vegetable gardening and karaoke. Survivors include his wife, Pat Short of Burlington; two daughters, Denise (Mike) Bruner of Trenton, Missouri and Deborah (Greg) Lewis of Cedar Rapids; one son, Darren (Stephanie) Short of Wapello; five grandchildren, Troy and Travis Bruner, Lauren Lewis, and Sam and Casey Short; one sister, Delores (Jim) Springfield of Yakima, Washington; four stepsisters, Edie (Kenny) Moore, Doris (Leland) Talbott, Nancy (Don) Alexander and Merlene White all of Monmouth, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. His parents and one brother, Richard Short, preceded him in death. A memorial has been established for the Wapello Athletic Association.
