Herbert W. Bernhart, 73, of 210 West Burlington Ave., West Burlington, died at 8:45 am Sunday, Aug. 23, 1987, at Burlington Medical Center.
Born Oct. 23, 1913, at Ava, Mo., he was the son of Carl and Iva Nisley Bernhart. He married Helen Lease on August 5, 1939, in Kahoka, Mo.
He was a retired cement finisher for the Carl A. Nelson Company. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Moose Lodge, and the American Legion.
Surviving are his wife; one son, Larry Bernhart, Plainview, Texas; three brothers, George and Paul, both of Avon, Ill., and Roy, Burlington; three sisters, Marguerite Siefken, Burlington, Doris Mason, and June Bernhart, both of Tulsa, Okla.; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 pm Tuesday at Prugh’s Chapel.
The service for Mr. Bernhart will be at 10:30 am Wednesday at Prugh's Chapel. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the First United Methodist Church.
