Helen Louise Bernhart, 83, of the Burlington Care Center, died at 8:10 p.m. Saturday, August 14, 2004 at the care center. Born June 26, 1921, in Nitche, North Dakota, she was the daughter of Wiliam Scotland and Margaret Weber Lease. On August 5, 1939, she married Herbert William Bernhart in Kahoka, Missouri. He died August 24, 1987. Mrs. Bernhart worked for Midwest Biscuit for 37 years, first as an evening shift supervisor, then in the printing room and sample room putting up cases for salesmen. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bingo and fishing from the shore, and spent many hours cooking, canning, baking, and making turquoise and silver jewerly. Survivors include one son, Larry Bernhart of West Burlington; three granddaughters; three grandsons; two great-granddaughters; fire great-grandsons; one sister Gladys Bock of Eldridge, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Opal Beaumaster of Anchorage, Alaska Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Prugh's Chapel in Burlington, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Bernhart will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Prugh's Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Tevis officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Disabled American Veterans.
