Obituary
Wilbur A. Selser, 83, of West Burlington, died at 7 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Burlington Care Center. Born February 25, 1926, in Columbus City, he was the son of Frank and Gladys Devore Selser. On November 20, 1949, he married Phyllis Gammon in Burlington. Mr. Selser was a car salesman for Hawkeye Motors and Arledge Auto Sales. He also delivered cars for Deery Brothers. He was a Sperry High School graduate. He was a World War II veteran in the Army Air Corps. He was a former president of the West Burlington School Board, and West Burlington Booster Club. He was a member of Eagles Club, Lions Club, American Legion and the Des Moines Masonic Lodge No. 1 AF & AM. He was a Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. fan, and enjoyed NASCAR racing. Survivors include his wife of West Burlington; one daughter, Nancy Cline of West Burlington; one son, Larry Selser of Bettendorf; six grandchildren; and one sister, Alma Schmidt of Sperry. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and five sisters. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral with military rites for Mr. Selser will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Dale Warner officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
