Catherine Louise Scurr, 97, formerly of Burlington, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at Lakeview Assisted Living in Heron Lake, Minn. Born Oct. 30, 1915, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Robert Boniface Sutter and Henrietta Adams. On Feb. 26, 1940, she married Howard T. SCURR IN Ottumwa. He died in 2004. Mrs. Scurr cared for newborn babies in the nursery on the OBGYN floor at Mercy Hospital in Burlington. She grew up in railroad communities across Illinois and Iowa, and graduated from Galesburg, Ill., High School at age 16 in 1932. She attended one year of college in Galesburg and moved to Creston, where she worked at Spurgeon's Department store. She attended nursing school at Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville, Ill. She and her husband lived in Oskaloosa, moved to Burlington in 1964 and to Worthington, Minn., in 1997. She moved to Heron Lake in 2004. She enjoyed cooking for family, crocheting and knitting family gifts and socializing with friends and family. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially by train, vacations in Florida, Texas and California, going out for meals with family and friends, time at the cabin, travel to the Black Hills, Seattle and throughout Minnesota and the staff and residents of Lakeview. Survivors include one son, Robert Scurr of Lake Carroll, Ill.; two daughters, Le Lucht of Worthington, and Bonnie Smith of Williamsburg.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was proceeded in death by one son. Burial will be Saturday in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of arrangements.
