Dr. Howard Trimble Scurr, Jr., 91, formerly of Worthington, Minnesota, died Saturday, January 17, 2004, at Sibley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sibley. Born November 3, 1912, in Creston, he was the son of Howard Trimble and Lola Ethel Williams Scurr. On February 26, 1940, he married Catherine Louise Sutter in Ottumwa. Mr. Scurr practiced dentistry for more than 50 years in Burlington. He graduated from high school and junior college in Creston, and graduated in 1938 from the Uniersity of Iowa College of Dentistry. He was a World War Army veteran, where he served in Ireland, Northern Africa, and Italy with the U.S. Army 34th Red Bull Division. He retired from the Army Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel after more than 40 years of service. Aftr marriage, he and his wife lived in Oskaloosa for 25 years before moving to Burlington in 1964. They moved to The Meadows in Worthington in 1997. He was a member of Lions Club for more than 50 years, and sang in church choirs in Oskaloos and Burlington. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert Scurr of Naperville, IL, and David Scurr of Coralville; two daughters, Lee Lucht of Worthington, and Bonnie Smith of Williamsburg; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The body has been cremated. The funeral for Mr. Scurr will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Benson Funeral Home Chapel, 1325 Fourth Avenue, Worthington, Minn. 56187, with the Rev. Michael Zaske officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington.
