Mrs. Barbara Jean Schwerin, 88, of Burlington died at 12:15 a.m. Sunday, January 18, 2015, at Blair House in Burlington.
Born June 28, 1926 in Burlington, she was the daughter of James Walter and Florence Margaret Rappold Hall. On January 22, 1944 she married Carl Schwerin in Burlington. He preceded her in death on October 6, 2006.
Mrs. Schwerin was a 1944 graduate of Burlington High School. She was an executive secretary at Benner Tea Company for 20 years, retiring in 1963.
Mrs. Schwerin was of the protestant faith and loved baking. In her retirement she lived in Mission, Texas from 1974 until 2002.
Survivors include two daughters, Peggy (Otis) Shipley of Carman, Illinois and Sally Hand of Burlington; five grandchildren, Dan Shipley of Burlington, Doug Shipley and Wade Shipley both of West Burlington, Jolie Boich of Cottage Grove, Minnesota and Chad Carter of Ankeny; and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister.
The graveside memorial funeral service and inurnment for Mrs. Schwerin will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 23rd, in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Dean Graber will officiate.
A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
Cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel.
