Obituary

Emilie Jane Schultz, 77, of Burlington, died at 5:45 PM Thursday, October 8, 2015, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born February 21, 1938, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Sherman Allison and Alberta Baxter Cook. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1956 and from Burlington Community College in 1958. Emilie taught third grade at Port Byron, IL for one year before marrying the love of her life, Bob Schultz on June 21, 1959 in Burlington. They enjoyed time in Hawaii together while he was stationed at Oahu in the U.S. Army for 15 months. She became a homemaker after the birth of her children and later returned to teaching. She taught for Top of the Hill Preschool, painting classes at Macramé Mill and many other locations through SCC, and in her later years she worked for Nature's Corner until her retirement. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ and one of her greatest joys was singing alto in the church choir. She had a passion for crafts and shared her talent of tole painting with her friends and family by giving painted gifts. She enjoyed playing bridge, water aerobics, and loved socializing with her many friends and neighbors. She was happiest surrounded by her family and grandchildren. She was loved by all who knew her and will be remembered for her big heart, spectacular gift wrapping, and her cherry pie. Survivors include her husband, Robert; one son, Randy (Nancy) Schultz of Lee's Summit, MO; two daughters, Robin (Tom) Nelson and Rita Hartman, both of Burlington; three grandsons, Nicholas Schultz of Lee's Summit, MO, Samuel Hartman of Ames, and Sherman Hartman of Burlington; two granddaughters, Sarah (Dave) Burgus and Stella Hartman, both of Burlington; one sister, Joan White of Burlington; and one brother, Warren (Betty) Cook of Galesburg, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 7:30 PM with the family receiving friends from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home, 3940 Division St. The funeral service for Mrs. Schultz will be 11:00 AM Monday, October 12, 2015, at First United Church of Christ with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held at First United Church of Christ following the funeral service. Cremation will be entrusted to Prugh-Thielen Crematory following the service. A private family burial will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.
