Obituary

John J. Schultz, 88, of Kennewick, Washington, formerly of Cedar
Rapids, died Saturday, April 5, 2014, near Kennewick. Born March 15, 1926, in Wapello, he
was the son of Burt and Helen Schultz. On June 21, 1950, he married Marcelyn Harmer in Canton,
Illinois. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Schultz worked as a switchman for the Rock Island, Illinois, Railroad until his retirement.
After high school, he served in the Navy during World War II. He was an avid Cedar Rapids Kernels and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He never missed an opportunity to attend a game. Survivors include two sons, Roger Schultz of North Liberty and Michael Schultz of Kennewick; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one son.
Private graveside services for the family will be May 16 in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington.
Memorials have been established for Alzheimer's Association and the American Cancer Societ
