Ernest (Roger) Schoenbein, 73, of Burlington, died at 12:06 pm Friday, March 16, 2012, at his home in Burlington. Born April 2, 1938, in Peoria, IL, he was the son of Ernest Herman and Hazel Bernice Jones Schoenbein. On October 13, 1963, he married Sharon Kay Poole in Princeville, IL. They later divorced.
Roger started out as a spray painter and then as a tester for leaks for Maytag in Galesburg, before retiring in 1995. He enjoyed fishing, circle of words, and antique tractors. Survivors include one son, Joseph "Joe" (Michelle) Schoenbein of Burlington; nine grandchildren, Ashley, Brad, Kayle, Randa, Kyle, Kaleb, Kaylyn, McKenna, and Connor; one sister, Roberta (Jack) Groeper of Brimfield, IL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son Lyle Edwin Schoenbein. Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Monday, March 19, 2012 at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. The funeral service for Mr. Schoenbein will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Gary Karas officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Hass-Thielen community room following the interment. A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society.
