Mary Lou Schneiderman, 91, of Burlington, died at 3:14 AM Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born October 9, 1924, in Carroll, IA, she was the daughter of John and Grace Blinn Juergens. She married Adair O. Spear on July 14, 1946 with whom she had four children. They divorced in 1974. She later married Alvin R. Schneiderman, a widower with two children. They were married 32 years before he passed. She has spent the last six years with her significant other Robert Frink.
Mary Lou graduated from Glidden High School, Glidden, Iowa in 1942. She graduated from Drake University in Des Moines with a B.C.S. Degree in 1946. Affiliated with Delta Gamma Sorority, she was the Drake Relays Queen in 1945. After she was married, she taught school in Norwalk, Iowa. She kept books for the Stanwood Lumber Yard in Stanwood, Iowa and later worked in Kardan's and Classic's in the Westland Mall in West Burlington. Mary Lou was a care giver to her husband Alvin for quite a few years.
She considered her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren to be her greatest enjoyment and achievement. She enjoyed computers, playing the organ, loved the Big Band era, especially Andy Williams, collected Boyd Bears, watching Iowa Basketball & Football, playing Golf & Tennis, eating healthy and exercising. She was a good listener, friend, and enjoying the simple things of life. Mary Lou was a member of the First Methodist Church.
Survivors include her significant other, Robert Frink; two daughters, Janet (Steve) Holtman of Cedar Rapids, Julie (Jim) Kniffen of Burlington; two sons, Craig (Sue) Spear, Scott (Cindy) Spear of Burlington; one step-son, Bart (Suzie) Schneiderman of Burlington; one step-daughter, Robin Schneiderman of Burlington; eight grandchildren, Laura, Dan, Emilee, Brandon (Myria), Trevor, Jenna, Natalie, Nathan; five great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Stevie, Tesher, Truett, Attley; four step grandchildren, Tammy, Josh, Jarrod, Janelle; and three step great-grandchildren, Blaise, Brennon, and Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother John Juergens, and two infant sisters.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.
Memorial visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM where the family will receive friends Sunday, January 3, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. A time of food and fellowship will be held at G.G. Conn Pavilion at Spirit Hollow at 3:30 PM.
The private graveside committal service for Mrs. Schneiderman will be Monday, January 4, 2016, at Aspen Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Great River Hospice, National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation , and the First United Methodist Church.
