Mrs. Alma Irene Schmidt, 87, of Burlington died at 8:05 a.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born May 26, 1924 in Columbus City, she was the daughter of Frank and Gladys Devore Selser. On January 1, 1947 she married Everett Harold Schmidt in West Burlington. He preceded her in death on January 18, 1991. Mrs. Schmidt was a graduate of Sperry High School. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Schmidt was a member of Sperry United Methodist Church since 1947. She was also a member of United Methodist Women and was a volunteer at Burlington Medical Center. She enjoyed reading, watching the cardinals at her bird feeder, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes basketball and football, sewing and ceramics. Survivors include one son, Craig (Connie) Schmidt of rural Burlington; one daughter, Diane Anderson of Burlington; three grandchildren, Amanda Schmidt, Carmen Schmidt and Brady (Claire) Schmidt all of Burlington; and one great grandchild on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and five sisters. The visitation for Mrs. Schmidt will be from noon until 8 p.m. Friday, January 13th, in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. The funeral service for Mrs. Schmidt will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 14th, in Sperry United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jeff Kodis will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Sperry United Methodist Church.
