Obituary
Mrs. Berges was alone in the kitchen at 7 am, and it was believed by members of the family that flames from a gas stove were responsible for the tragedy. The family was upstairs at the time and did not hear her cries for help. A neighbor, Lawrence Weidman, heard her, however. He rushed into the house and wrapped his overcoat around her.
She was taken immediately to the hospital but died 10 hours later.
Coroner RO Giles indicated there will be no inquest.
She was born in German in 1874 and came here with her family when she was a small girl. She married John Louis Berges in 1905. He died in 1934.
