Ronald D. "Ronnie" Savage, 73, of Burlington, died at 7:07 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2009, at his home. Born February 8, 1936, in Burlington, he was the son of Raymond O. and Dorothy J. Engle Savage. On September 24, 1961, he married Theola Blakeley in Salem. Mr. Savage worked at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown for 14 years, and as a welder for Trane, J. I. Case Co. and Caterpillar. He later worked in maintenance at F&M Bank and Trust in Burlington. He was a 1955 graduate of Lockridge High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of West Burlington Christian Church, Claypoole Masonic Lodge in Fort Madison, and a past member of the Order of Eastern Star and Shrine and Consistory. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. and D.A.V. He enjoyed woodworking, camping and collecting. Survivors include his wife; his mother of Burlington; one brother, Bobby Savage of Wayland; one sister, Beverly Carver of New London; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, and his twin brother. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, where the family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The funeral for Mr. Savage will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Dean Graber officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Oakland Mills Camping Ground for a flag in memory of Ronald Savage.
