Virginia "Sue" Savage, 80, of Burlington, died at 8:15 a.m. Sunday, September 26, 2010, at Danville Care Center. Born April 8, 1930, in Hector, Ark., she was the daughter of Covie Earnest and Marjorie L. Llewellyn Massey. In 1948 she married Billie Smelser, Jr. He died in 1958. On July 25, 1959, she married Harold D. Savage, Sr. in Macomb, Ill. He died November 7, 1993. Mrs. Savage worked 11 years in production at Midwest Biscuit Co. in West Burlington, retiring in 1991. She was a member of Parkside First Baptist Church. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Red Hatters and "Lady Bugs" lunch club. She enjoyed playing cards, cooking, and baking. Survivors include two sons, Harold "Dwane" Savage, Jr. of Mediapolis, and Ronald Smelser of Danville; two daughters, Sharon "Kay" Parrott of Burlington, and Julia Peterson of Mediapolis; nine grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one brother, James "Junior" Massey of Georgetown, Fla.; one sister, Sandra Messer of Burlington; nieces and nephews. Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by one grandchild and her parents. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Savage will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Randy Langner officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established.
