Claude Richard Sams, 76, of Keokuk, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at Keokuk Area Hospital. Born June 7, 1932, in Hannibal, Mo., he was the son of Clady Ray and Evalina Marie Lee Sams. Mr. Sams was employed at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington for 18 years. He lived the past four years at Lexington Square in Keokuk. He loved to draw and paint. He also loved the outdoors, mowing, fishing and watching ducks and horses. He always had a smile for those around him. Survivors include one brother, Gary Eugene Sams of Alameda, Calif.; five sisters, Carmelita Wood of Virginia, Rexcenia Forristall and Marlene Mack, both of Wayland, Mo., Colettia Sams of Hannibal, Mo., and Connie Jean Stella of Bridgeton, Mo.; nieces; and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. There will be no visitation. Graveside services for Mr. Sams will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Aspen Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Dean Graber officiating. A memorial has been established. Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.
