Helen Louise Kaczetow, 82, of Columbus Junction, formerly of Washington, died following a lingering illness Friday, January 30, 2009, at Colonial Manor Care Center in Columbus Junction. Born January 2, 1927, in Farmington, she was the daughter of Alva Everett and Mary Ellen Muntz Scott. On March 10, 1985, she married John Z. Kaczetow. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Kaczetow was a nail technician for several years, but spent most of her working life as kitchen supervisor at the Moose Haven Home in Florida. She moved back to Iowa from Jacksonville, Fla., in 2002, and moved into the Colonial Manor Care Center on April 14, 2008. She enjoyed sewing, puzzles, embroidery and going out to eat. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ann Smith of Washington; one son, Robert Lewis Salts of New Caney, Texas; four stepchildren; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, two sisters, and one grandson. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, with family receiving friends from 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Kaczetow will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, with the Rev. Darryl Carr officiating. Burial will follow in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
