William Harrison Bennett, 80, of Monmouth, Ill., formerly of Burlington, died Sunday, July 29, 2007, at his winter home in Mission, Texas.
Born June 26, 1927, in Dallas City, Ill., he was the son of Lewis Harrison and Oria Olia Bennett. On April 17, 1949, he married Wanda Lea Peel in Nauvoo, Ill. She died May 1, 1985. On Sept. 6, 1986, he married Mary Lou Stoneking.
Mr. Bennett attended school in Burlington. He served in the Army during WWII and was stationed in Japan. He worked for 39 years at Lehigh Leopold, retiring in June of 1989. He was a skilled woodworker and enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Diana Lowe of Mount Pleasant; two sons, Dale of Cedar Rapids and Larry of Muscatine; three stepsons, Michael Steines of Lyles, Tenn., and David Steines of Galesburg, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Sheri Hanson of Little York, Ill.; six grandchildren; 18 stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Darlene Ruby of Gainsville, Mo.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and three brothers.
Per Mr. Bennett’s wishes, cremation will be accorded. Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission has assisted the family with the arrangements. A service will be held in Iowa at a later date.
Burial took place on Sept. 15, 2007, in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
