Mary Frances "Fran" Salome, 89, of Burlington, died at 1:05 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born September 4, 1921, in Pontoosuc Township, Dallas City, IL, she was the daughter of Leo and Victoria Owings McBride. In December 1940, she married Walter Alan Norris. They divorced. On August 17, 1951, she married Herbert W. Salome in Galesburg, IL. He died June 30, 1991. Mrs. Salome worked 16 years as a supervisor at Ross Manufacturing, and retired from Antennacraft, where she worked 12 years as a supervisor. She attended Colusa, IL, High School, and graduated from Nauvoo, IL High School. She was an Iowa Hawkeyes basketball fan, and lifetime St. Louis Cardinal fan. She enjoyed playing cards, and in later years feeding birds and watching them from her deck. Survivors include one daughter. Nancy Delzell of Morning Sun; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchilden; two sisters, Cecelia Temborius of Chillicothe, IL, and Martha Conradt of Urbandale; nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, her parents, three sisters, and three brothers. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, where family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Salome will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. David Mixon officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
